Book Review: Show Me How: 500 Things You Should Know

If you can only buy one book this year, you must make it Show Me How by Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom. I received this book the other day and have not been able to put it down. Show Me How is a reference book like none you have ever seen before. Filled with nearly wordless step-by-step graphic instructions for 500 fun, useful and exotic tasks that everyone should know how to do to get through life's crazy adventures. From how to mix a classic martini to how to escape from a straight jacket. This books has it all. While many of us will never have to wrestle an alligator, we most likely will benefit from learning how to change a flat tire or how to swaddle a baby. Show Me How is divided into several sections:
  • Make (do a knit stitch, sew a spooky voodoo doll, build an erupting volcano...)
  • Eat (cut a pineapple, clean a lobster, identify beef cuts...)
  • Drink (serve and pair Merlot, dazzle with sabrage, understand espresso drink ratios...)
  • Style (dread my do', shade sexy, smoky eyes, tie a bow tie...)
  • Love (tie a cherry stem in mouth, read date's love line, get out of a car in a miniskirt...)
  • Nest (remove old wallpaper, sew simple curtains, fold a fitted sheet...)
  • Grow (re pot a houseplant, milk a goat, remove gum from a child's hair...)
  • Thrive (head a soccer ball, stop a nosebleed, carry skis...)
  • Go (fold his clothes for travel, leap from a cliff, make a delicious s'more...)
  • Survive (make a sun compass, dig a snow cave, throw an effective punch....)
  • Wow (play chopsticks, find symbols in tea leaves, breathe fire...)

Show Me How is one of the most informative and entertaining books I have seen. It is definately a book that should be on everyone's bookshelf! This book will be released on Oct. 28th, but you can pre-order on Amazon for $16.47.
